Cupid and Pysche

Cupid and Pysche

$950.00

This suite showcases a labor-intensive technique in metalsmithing known as laminated metals. Simply put, it is a method whereby non-ferrous metals can be combined together, first in wire form and then rolled out into a sheet. In this case, I used brass, copper, and sterling silver. Cupid, the necklace, is composed of brown rutilated quartz beads, strung on silk, and punctuated with hand-wrought, sterling silver beads wrapped with the laminated hearts. The clasp is a friction clasp set with a citrine. You press down on the citrine thereby releasing the pressure of the metal on the tube and the clasp can be opened (see the photo with the open clasp). This is also an unusual piece for me as it is asymmetrical — the clasp is to be worn so that it can be seen. The swing of 11 beads should be even at the bottom of the necklace. Cupid measures 23 inches (584 mm.) in length.

Psyche, the earrings, are composed of sterling and fine silver set with citrines and embellished with sterling silver twisted wire and laminated hearts. She is secured to the ears with French wires , and she measures 1 1/2 inches (38 mm.). Psyche is stamped Sterling and with my logo (see the blackened image). My logo is trademarked with the US Patent and Trademark Office, Reg. No. 5,878,040.

This suite is truly a stunning one-of-a-kind set of jewelry. I have yet to come across faceted brown rutilated quartz beads and I have been looking.
